Karen and Mike
Friends and family! It's hard to believe the wedding is right around the corner. We can't wait to see all of you there! Thank you for visiting our wedding registry. To be honest, we really don't need (or want) anything more than your presence at our wedding and your well-wishes for us. We just want to celebrate with all of you at the wedding, and we know that you are spending a lot of money to travel to Maui so that we can do so. We truly appreciate that so many of you are making the effort to join us on our big day. Because we know that some people may want to give us some type of gift (again, it is REALLY not necessary or expected that you do), we wanted to come up with a creative, fun, and practical way to make that possible. As you know, we have been together for a "few" years now and we have acquired most of the household items we need. In fact, we're actually trying to "down-size" because shortly after the wedding, we will be packing up and heading out to Washington, D.C. so that Karen can pursue an opportunity with the U.S. Foreign Service. We will be driving out east so that we can bring our most prized possessions with us -- Oscar and Tucker. We thought it might be fun to have people contribute to portions of the trip we will be making out to D.C. -- i.e., hotels, lunches, dinners, pet cleaning fees, gas, tourist attractions, etc. That way, those of you who have been to any of the spots we'll be visiting can also give us advice on where to stay, what to eat and do, things to avoid, etc. We would love to craft this trip with input from all of you! Here is our tentative plan: Our trip will begin from our home in Danville and will take us through Nevada and on to Salt Lake City. From there, we will head to Cheyenne, Wyoming. The next stop will be the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. After Lincoln, we will continue along Highway 80 through the lovely (and Mike's favorite) state of Iowa. We will be stopping by the University of Iowa in Iowa City to pick up some Hawkeye gear and to hopefully meet up with some Waterloo folks for dinner. From Iowa City, the next stop will be Chicago for some pizza and a Cubs game. We will then head to South Bend, Indiana to check out the Notre Dame campus. Mike plans to ask Touchdown Jesus why Notre Dame got beaten so badly in last year’s National Championship Game against Alabama. From South Bend, we will head to Cleveland, Ohio because Oscar and Tucker are dying to take a dip in Lake Erie. From Cleveland, we will drive to D.C., which will be our new home for the next 6-9 months before we are sent overseas! Lots of adventures ahead of us! ;) You can see our journey below -- come join us!United States Washington, District Of Columbia Bethesda, Maryland Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania Cleveland, Ohio
We are considering staying at the Sheraton Salt Lake City (you gotta love the pet-friendly Starwood Hotels), but let us know if you have a different recommendation!
We are considering staying at the La Quinta Inn (since La Quinta Inns love our four-legged kiddos), but let us know if you have a different recommendation!
At this point in the trip, all four of us will likely be in dire need of some type of spa treatment!
Anyone know of a great pet-friendly hotel in Lincoln? If not, it may be another La Quinta Inn!
Mornings are getting a little rougher, so a hearty breakfast will likely be a necessity at this point.
Hopefully some of our family from Waterloo will come meet us in Iowa City for dinner and/or a drink!
After so many hours in a car, da boos are going to be ready to get out on the water!
We're considering the Residence Inn, but we're definitely open to suggestions!
