Gili Islands

The Gilis are three small islands just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. As automobiles and motorized traffic are prohibited on the islands we'll be getting around by the local variety of horse-drawn carriage called a cidomo. Famed for their astonishing blue coral and unforgettable snorkelling, we'll hang here for a day or two and snorkel (Shilpa), dive (Roy) and revel in the remoteness and stunning natural scenery.
Appealingly the Gili's are commonly referred to as the "Turtle Capital of the World", not because the worlds turtle population meets on occasion at the Gili's to discuss matters of interest, but rather because there are a large numbers of turtles hanging out around the Gili's, who have not been driven away by over-development or unsustainable practices, as such we should find a good number of turtles waiting to be spotted by us as we cavort in the waters.
*** Update! We just booked our lodging for the Gili's and we'll be staying at a dive resort which (wait for it!) is also a dive school. Shilpa is hoping to take a few half day dive courses so she can accompany Roy on a short dive!
